Use of Macrocyclic, Cinnamyl Phenyl Propyl ingredients safe in fragrances

Human health safety assessments, carried out on Macrocyclic and Cinnamyl Phenyl Propyl ingredients by The Research Institute for Fragrance Materials (RIFM), shows that the ingredients are safe to use in fragrances.

As per the study, the ingredients are practically nonirritating, with a low sensitisation potential, no genotoxicity potential and a low order of repeat dose toxicity at the current levels of use.

Alongside cosmetics, the ingredients are also used in other industry verticals such as personal care, household care and air care.

The institute, therefore, has opined that these materials showed no grounds for environmental concern.

Under the anticipated levels of exposure in fine fragrance and consumer products, there are no safety concerns regarding use of these materials, according to RIFM.

Human Health Science vice president Anne Marie Api said they now have 13 group summaries and hundreds of FMRs published and many have appeared in Food and Chemical Toxicology’s list of most cited papers which underscores the depth of the science produced at RIFM.

RIFM, an accredited international scientific authority for the safe use of fragrance materials, generates, evaluates and distributes scientific data on the safety assessment of fragrance raw materials found in personal and household care products.

All of the institute’s scientific findings are evaluated by an independent Expert Panel, consisting of an international group of dermatologists, pathologists, toxicologists, reproduction, respiratory and environmental scientists.
