Toyobo introduces new ingredient for anti-aging products formulations

Toyobo, a Japan-based ingredients manufacturer, has developed a technology which creates PhytoPolamine-S, an extract rich in polyamine derived from soybean germ that can be used in anti-aging products formulations.

The firm, which claims to be the world’s first company to create cosmetic ingredient extracted from soybean, has recently introduced the ingredient into the market as a multi-purpose moisturising and anti-aging ingredient targeting the skin care category, reported cosmeticsdesign.com.

According to the firm, the polyamine in the extract is an amino group of straight-chained aliphatic compounds, which includes putrescine, spermidine and and spermine, compounds that together support the structure of skin cells aiming to play a crucial role.

Polyamines steady cell membranes by inducing the synthesis of nucleic acid and proteins, enzyme activation, in addition to promoting cell division, to help maintain the cell structure, thereby preventing its failure and the onset of the skin aging process.

Toyobo said polyamines are found in huge amounts in human skin and are believed to make up an important part in the formation of the skin barrier itself, as well as protecting it from UV rays.

The firm said as part of its research, it discovered that polyamines improve plant yields and resistance to environmental stress, relevant to the anti-aging category, realising that they also working to prolong the life of fruit and flowers.

Toyobo said in human skin fibroblast clinical trials, it was revealed that the extract is effective in inducing cell activation and promoting the production of collagen.

The company said it is expecting the same kind of performance when the Phytopolyamine ingredient is applied to the skin.
