Shin-Etsu introduces new silicone ingredient for cosmetic formulations

Cosmetic ingredient manufacturer Shin-Etsu has introduced a new silicone-based ingredient, KF-6004 Multi-Functional Care Additive, which possesses compounded sensorial properties, that can be used in hair and skin care formulations.

The Japanese-owned US division Shin-Etsu Silicones of America said the new ingredient is a high purity, hydrolytically stable silicone application that can be used as a broad spectrum compound in hair care and skin care applications.

According to the firm, the new active features an ABA chemical structure that combines polyether and a large silicone block to deliver an optimal surface orientation, while improving performance advantages in diverse formulations.

The firm said the new active is an odourless white,water soluble silicone, that is said to have properties to deliver noticeable sensorial properties that make treated surfaces feel soft and silky.

Shin-Etsu America silicones marketing manager An-Li Kuo said the new ingredient is ideal for consumer personal care products such as skin lotions and creams, sun care products, hair leave-on conditioners, hair frizz-control serums, facial cleansers and hand sanitisers.

The firm said tests using a 1.0wt% solution of the ingredient have shown that the curls of sample hair turned softer, smoother, and silkier, compared to an untreated and a control tress.

Besides, the treated tress showed minimal frizz, good shape control, shiny appearance and an improved feel.

The firm claims the ingredient also possesses functional properties such as foam booster, detackifier, moisturiser, texturiser and stabilisers.
