Senté develops Heparan Sulfate based skin care cream

Senté, a US-based start-up skin care company, has developed a Senté Dermal Repair Cream that combines Heparan Sulfate (HS) as an active ingredient.

The firm, which claims to be the world’s first skin care company to use Heparan Sulfate, said the new compound is a naturally occurring, most biologically active glycoproteins in the skin, which are very important for the wound healing and cell rejuvenation process, reported cosmeticsdesign.com.

Senté said for cosmetics purposes the product line will be marketed with anti-wrinkle and skin whitening claims.

Senté chairman Faheem Hasnain said the firm’s proprietary low molecular weight HS has been formulated with a number of other interactive factors that have the ability to amplify its effect.

"In addition, our low molecular weight HS has been scientifically proven to absorb throughout the epidermis and penetrate into the dermis very effectively, a crucial and beneficial factor. Senté has patent pending low molecular weight heparan sulfate included in its product line," added Hasnain.

The firm said the ingredient plays a supportive role in all of the skin’s layers, particularly in the basement membrane and on the cell’s surface, which plays a vital role in the usage of ingredient into product formulations.

According to the firm, HS combines and regulates the activities of many enzymes, growth factors (EGF, FGF, HGF) and proteins.

The firm said the ingredient binds the fibrous collagens – type I, III and V – and has the ability to fill space and either bind or organise water molecules.

Senté claims that HS even has the ability to improve the self-renewal of stem cells, and without HS, an organism can’t survive.

The firm said the product underwent clinical trials with 30 – 60 subjects for each study to determine the formulation, pre-clinical safety and absorption of the ingredient following with the whitening, hydrative and anti-wrinkle properties.
