Rousselot to expand into skin care category

Gelatine and collagen peptides maker Rousselot is planning to expand into the skin care category following new clinical trials as well as expanding its production in Brazil.

The Netherlands-based firm said it has developed a new ingredient Peptan F, and the product in clinical trials conducted in France have documented the working process of ingredient on skin structure from the inside out, making it suitable for anti-ageing formulations, reports cosmeticsdesign.com.

The clinical trials were carried out earlier at COSderma laboratories, which used advanced skin assessment technologies, including laser scanning, to assess the in-vivo effects of oral ingestion fish Peptan collagen, when compared with a placebo on skin.

Rousselot claims that the test revealed the fact that the oral ingestion of Peptan collagen, which is considered as a growing beauty product within category, not only reasserts the benefits of the ingredient, but also aids in the company’s product claims.

According to the firm, the ingredient works on the skin by inducing the production of collagen in skin cells, which helps in firming the coherence of the skin molecular integrity, finally making it appear smoother and firmer.

The ingredient also includes high levels of arginine, which possesses cartilage matrix degradation properties that make it suitable for healthy joints and bones.

The firm said the ingredient is also used in formulating products for sports nutrition and supplements for the elderly people, which can stimulate muscle performance.

Rousselot said in order to meet the increased demand of product, it is planning to expand its global production with the addition of a new facility in Amparao, near Sao Paulo in Brazil.

The new facility, which is expected to open in 2013, will produce Peptan F fish and porcine and joins the other facility located in Angoulême, Central France.
