Organic cosmetics use begins to swell in the consumer goods sector: Study

Organic cosmetics use is beginning to grow in the consumer goods sector, as rising consumer interest in long term care sees the market expecting to register strong growth in the next three years, reports market researcher Euromonitor.

According to the market researcher, the US is still the leading market for these products, while the Japanese market is surging, besides Europe, Germany, reported cosmeticsdesign-europe.com.

The market researcher has projected that the US organic beauty and personal care sector is expecting a gain of $1.7bn (€1.4bn) during 2010-2015.

Euromonitor was quoted by the website as saying, "This strong growth makes North America the prime target market for companies wishing to explore organic beauty and personal care. Niche natural and organic personal care brands are now becoming mainstream and are attracting a growing consumer base."

The market researcher said in 2011 saw Japan report a global value sales share of 14%, with the potential to become the second most attractive market for organic beauty and personal care players, if it is seen that green credentials and organic benefits can be effectively conveyed to consumers.

Euromonitor said Germany is the most mature market for natural beauty products, accommodating many of the biggest and most established Organic and Natural Beauty brands, such as Börling, Dr Hauschka, Lavera and Weleda.

According to the Euromonitor, the German domestic market is likely to see little growth in organic beauty products over the 2010-2015 period, since local interest has raised ground for German brands that are observed to increase popularity in other parts of Europe.

The market researcher said growth of usage of organic beauty products, particularly applied to the skin and hair by consumers, is primarily driven by their healthful properties and the view of long term care.
