Oral hygiene care is catching up in South Africa, says report

Care towards oral hygiene is catching up high among South Africans, finds a new report by UK-based research firm Canadean Health & Beauty.

The compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of South Africa’s oral hygiene market value is estimated to be at 3.35% for 2011-2016 over 2.41% posted during five years before, reveals the report ‘The Oral Hygiene Market in South Africa, to 2016’.

During 2011, oral hygiene market value grew by nearly 13% over 2006 and is likely to continue its momentum until 2016 and grow further by 2.41% over 2011 figures, up 39%.

Growth rate is hopefully higher in volume terms than in value terms, as per Canadean’s survey. For 2011-16, the CAGR is estimated to be about 2.66%, marking nearly 45% increase over the CAGR of 1.84% posted in the review period, 2006-11.

All the segments, including dental floss, denture care, mouthwash, toothbrushes & replacement heads, toothpaste, and breath fresheners (non-confectionery), are estimated to grow in the next five years compared to their respective performances earlier between 2006 and 2011.

The research report estimates that the volume-wise consumption of oral hygiene products will also increase going forward.

As per survey findings, the market volume will grow up to 14% in 2016 over 2011 volume, while 2011 experienced only 9.5% growth over 2006.

The report also provides value and volume analysis by segments, besides presenting value analysis by brands and distribution channel in South African oral hygiene market for 2011.
