Older consumers drive French fragrances market: Report

Over half of the French fragrances market is driven by consumers aged over 45, says a report by Canadean Health & Beauty.

According to the report, "Consumer Trends in the Fragrances Market in France", 33.4% of the consumers are aged over 55, while 16.7% are mid-lifers aged between 45 and 54; kids & babies form the smallest part with 6%.

Female consumers are marginally higher at 53%; the urban share in the market is 66% while that of the rural regions is 34%.

Among the various educated groups, those educated up to the higher secondary level hold 35% and pre-primary consumers hold 1.45%.

The affluent and the moderate income groups together form 75% of the market, with the former holding 43.5% and the latter 32%; the least share of 6.3% is held by the highly affluent group.

Consumers with spare time of one to three hours hold 36.4% and those with less than one hour of time hold 34.5%.

The male and female fragrances sections of the market are 96% penetrated by brands as against private labels, while in the unisex section, the penetration is 87%.

Indulgence has been the most influencing trend for over 51% consumers.

Among the three categories of the French market, female fragrances hold 55%, male fragrances 42% and unisex 3%.
