Lubrizol to unveil new polymer for skincare formulations at CITE Japan

US-based speciality chemicals developer and manufacturer for skin care, hair care, bath and personal care industry, Lubrizol, has announced its plans to unveil its new rheology modifier Carbopol Ultrez 30 polymer, at the 6th Cosmetic Ingredients & Technology Exhibition (CITE) in Japan.

Japan CITE exhibition will be held from 15 May to 17 May 2013 at the Pacifico Yokohama convention centre.

The new modifier is said to provide good electrolyte tolerance, high thickening performance in a wide range of pH, and a distinct sensory in formulation of skin care products.

Carbopol Ultrez 30 polymer is claimed to help achieve the desired rheological and aesthetic properties in the presence of electrolytes or the acidic actives.

According to the company’s website, the cross-linked acrylic acid homopolymer also provides a solution to design skin care products with low to medium viscosities.

It is said to be appropriate with botanical extracts or water-soluble salts, and acidic actives or ingredients such as alpha hydroxy acids, salicylic acid or organic acid preservatives at a pH range as low as 4.0 – 4.5 because of the improved electrolyte tolerance and broad pH compatibility of the polymer.

Lubrizol Asia Pacific Personal and Home Care business director Arul Mathew said the new rheology from the company provides a high performance skin care solution for a broad pH range.

"Our Carbopol® polymer range of products has a long history of providing our customers with solutions for formulating increasingly intricate formulations," Mathew added.

"We are confident that the new Carbopol Ultrez 30 polymer, along with the other new products in our offering, will bolster our commitment to helping our customers formulate with confidence."

It is stated on the company website that the polymer can be used in formulations of lotions, creams, and gels for face and body.

It can also be used in systems with systems with organic acid preservatives, and for sun care products.
