Helen of Troy net sales revenue surges by 3.6% in FY Q2 2013

Personal care products manufacturer Helen of Troy has reported an increase of 3.6% in net sales revenue to $287.41m in the fiscal 2013 second quarter, compared to $277.42m for the same period in 2012.

The US-based firm’s net income for the fiscal 2013 second quarter has decreased to $22.97m, down from $23.59m in the fiscal 2012 second quarter.

Personal care segment fiscal 2013 second quarter net sales revenue declined by 2.5% to $112.36m, as against $115.29 for the same period in the previous year, said the personal care products manufacturer.

According to the firm, the decrease in net sales revenue occurred due to the increase in competitive trade promotional activities, impact of inventory reductions, shifts in category emphasis by certain retailers and the impact of foreign currency instability in the US.

Helen of Troy chairman, chief executive officer and president Gerald Rubin said the firm has achieved record net sales revenue and record operating income during the second quarter.

"Similar to other global consumer products companies, we faced many challenges in light of continuing consumer uncertainty and global economic problems. We are pleased that we were able to achieve growth in net sales revenue, operating income and EBITDA without share-based compensation, in a challenging retail sales environment," Rubin added.

Helen of Troy is a US-based cosmetics and personal care company, whose personal brands include Revlon, Vidal Sassoon, Dr. Scholl’s, Pro Beauty Tools, Sure, Pert Plus, Infusium23, Brut, Ammens, Hot Tools, Bed Head, Karina, Ogilvie and Gold ‘N Hot.

The firm’s healthcare brands include Vicks, Braun, Honeywell, PUR, Febreze, Stinger, Duracraft and SoftHeat.
