Growth rate of American oral hygiene market to double in five years: Report

The oral hygiene market in the US is expected to experience nearly double growth rate in the next five years, finds a new report by UK-based research firm Canadean – Health & Beauty.

According to the report ‘The Future of the Oral Hygiene Market in the US, to 2016’, the compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of the oral hygiene market for 2011-16 forecast period is expected to be at 2.88%, up 95% over the last five years, 2006-11 when it was 1.48%.

A similar growth is expected in terms of market value, with the American oral hygiene market to grow by 7.6% from 2006 to 2011, and double itself to more than 15% by 2016.

The survey revealed that Americans have shown more inclination towards mouthwash compared to other segments in the last five years and are likely to accord high preference to this segment in future.

With 5.35% CAGR in the review period and a significant 6.5% in the forecast period, Mouthwash leads the growth rate charts, followed by breath fresheners at 4% and 5% CAGR for both periods respectively.

Toothpaste, though the leading segment of the oral hygiene market in the US through 2006 to 2016, the report observed a declining trend of its share from 33% in 2006 to 31% in 2011 and a possible 29% in 2016.

Mouthwash, on the contrary, has shown a constant growth during 2006 and 2011 and likely to continue the momentum until 2016. This segment stands third in value terms and follows Toothbrushes & Replacement Heads that has a steady growth pattern through 2006 to 2016.

The report further provides detailed analysis on each segment under the oral hygiene market of the US, comprising Dental Floss, Denture Care, Mouthwash, Toothbrushes & Replacement Heads, Toothpaste, Breath Fresheners (non-confectionery).

As part of the survey, Canadean also offers volume analysis by brands and value proposition by distribution channel for each segment for three years, between 2008 and 2011.
