France haircare consumption goes hand in hand with age of consumers, says report

Consumption of haircare products in France seems to be going hand in hand with the increasing age of consumers, finds a new research report by UK-based firm Canadean-Health & Beauty.

According to the report ‘Consumer Trends in the Haircare Market in France, 2011’, the older consumers of France have accounted for the leading market value share of 28%.

Interestingly the mid-lifers and pre-mid-lifers stood next in the order with around 16% and 15% respectively.

The overall haircare market is more driven by the trends such as better value for money and individualism settled in French consumers’ psyche.
About 29.8% of consumers stated this trend to be influencing their consumption of haircare products, while 29.6% cited individualism.

Among the segments, Shampoo led the France haircare market in 2011 with 41%, followed by hair colorants, styling agents, conditioner and perms & relaxers at 27%, 14%, 13% and 4% respectively.

In volume terms, however, hair colorants dominated the market with close to 40% share, while shampoo trailed at 37% during the year.

Among the educated groups, upper secondary students of France show more care for hair with close to 30% of product consumption, while affluent consumers captured the leading the market with 40% share from the wealth group perspective.

People in France, who average between one to three hours of leisure time per day, have accounted for more than 38% share, followed by the ones having no time at their disposal.

According to Canadean, France haircare market is yet to see major penetration of private label products, although styling agents and perms & relaxers have managed a double figure share.
