Evonik introduces new skin care ingredients

Speciality chemicals manufacturer and supplier Evonik has launched two new skin care ingredients, namely Tego Cistus, which aims to protect the skin against environmental stress and Tego Stemlastin that helps to reduce chronological ageing.

Tego Stemlastin is a micro algae extract of a red algae (Cyanidium caldarium), which is created with an eco-friendly method using a photo bio-reactor, that has ability to survive in intense environmental conditions, reported cosmeticsdesign.com.

The Germany-based firm said the new ingredient is a COSMOS-certified extract, with an ability to deliver a special intracellular composition of extremolytes such as algae polyphenols, mineral nutrients and amino acids.

According to the firm, the product in its several in-vitro studies demonstrated the ability to protect and maintain epidermal stem cell capacity for regenerated skin activity.

In addition, it has shown to improve the elastic fibre network, cutting down skin elasticity fatigue and leading to supple skin.

The firm said the ingredient in in vivo tests was found to considerably reduce fine lines by rejuvenating skin cells and reduces the wrinkles depth.

Evonik’s new ingredient can be used in anti-ageing products, regenerating face and body care products and in sun care product formulations.

The firm’s second ingredient Tego Cistus protects skin against environmental stress.

Composed with polyphenols from pink rock rose, Tego Cistus is a stereotype plant extract which can be used in skin protection, after sun, sensitive skin and daylight defense products formulations.

The company said the product in vivo studies has shown considerable security against UV induced inflammation, with the results being comparable to treatment with high levels of vitamin C and E derivatives.

According to firm, the ingredient in several in vitro tests has shown the ability to provide anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative effects, reduce reactive oxygen species (ROS) in skin cells and help shelter the skin against external invasions such as pollution and UV light.
