Emami to open personal care products manufacturing plants in Egypt and Bangladesh

Personal and healthcare consumer products company Emami said that it will open two manufacturing plants one each in Bangladesh and Egypt, as a part of its international expansion in the fiscal of 2012.

Emami Group (finance, strategy and business development) chief executive officer N H Bhansali said the Bangladesh plants will be operational first from this fiscal of 2012.

The India-based company said that this plant to be set up in Rajendrapur, Gazipur will produce personal and healthcare products for the market by September.

Emami’s subsidiary plant in Bangladesh will invest nearly INR150m-INR200m ($2.7m-$3.6m) in over the next two years.

The move for Bangladesh expansion comes in response to the increased sales figures of Navratna hair oil and Fair & Handsome fairness cream for men, which Emami has been selling through a local agent.

The company said that the Egypt plant, which also will produce personal and healthcare products, was acquired in 2011.

Emami said that it expects decent growth in its international business in 2012-13 with 20-25% growth.

Emami’s international business is said to currently account for nearly 13% of its total turnover; and the company aims to marginally increase the share of its international business.

Bhansali said that the firm expects business from domestic operations to expand 17-20% this fiscal as compared to its turnover growth of 16.6% in 2011-12.

The FMCG company, whose turnover in 2011 was INR14.54bn ($265m), continued to record substantial growth.
