Colgate Palmolive India net sales up by 18% in Q2 2012

Indian oral care major Colgate Palmolive India has reported net sales of INR7.74bn($146.65m) for the second quarter ended 30 September 2012, an increase of 18% when compared to the same period of 2011.

The firm’s net profit after tax was INR1.45bn($27.5m) in the present quarter, a 46% rise of from the same quarter of the previous year.

During the current quarter of 2012, the company achieved a volume growth of 10%.

The company has improved its position in the toothpaste category by gaining 54.3% volume market share during the period January – September 2012, compared to 52.3% share during the corresponding period in 2011.

According to the firm, the growth was driven by its flagship brands, such as ‘Colgate Dental Cream’, ‘Colgate Active Salt’, ‘Colgate Total’ and ‘Colgate Max Fresh’, gaining a 11% share.

The firm’s toothbrush category also accounted a strong growth momentum with a volume market share of 39%.

Colgate’s mouthwash category retained its growth rate with market share of 26.8%.

The company launched a new toothpaste variant, Colgate Total Advance Whitening, which forms a protective shield around teeth and gums.

Colgate also launched Colgate Max Fresh Ice toothpaste infused with dissolvable cooling crystals.

The firm said it has also launched new products under the toothbrush category such as Colgate 360 Battery Toothbrush and Colgate Max Fresh toothbrush.
