Avon reveals expansion plans for Malaysia to tap Chinese market further

Beauty products direct selling company Avon Cosmetics’ Malaysian arm Avon Cosmetics (Malaysia) has revealed its plans to bag a bigger chunk of the Chinese market in 2013.

The firm is planning to introduce 200 new products under various categories, along with home products as its new category, reported the newspaper Bernama.

Avon managing director Carolyn Nur Amira Lee said the firm with the new approach aims to play a major role in changing the lifestyles and business opportunities in the country.

"Our core market is the Malay market and that will continue to be our core market. We value, appreciate and we want to protect that," Lee added.

"Previously, the home products were on limited basis. We have invested a significant amount (of money) to build this category as well as the nutritional category"

Lee said the firm in order to achieve the strategy and to reach out to the target markets +has planned to open more outlets as well as Avon Beauty Boutiques, and organise programmes such as roadshows at colleges.

The firm said that in 2013, it would also hire younger representatives below the age of 25 to at least 40% of its 500,000 members, from the current 20%.
Avon said it would provide training to the representatives, as such the dealers can impart necessary information about the products the customers.

Avon Products is a US-based personal care products manufacturer and seller company, which operates in more than 140 countries across the world.’

The firm’s portfolio includes product ranges, such as fragrances, skin care, makeup, colour compacts and personal care.
