Artiste introduces new cocoa oil for anti-aging category

US-based ingredients manufacturer Artiste has introduced a new all-natural cocoa oil derived from Indonesian Theobroma caca beans, which can be used in specific applications for both natural-based hair care and skin care formulations, particularly focussing on the anti-aging category.

According to the firm, Cocoa oil has been widely used in the food industry and due to its moisturising property, it has also been widely used in hair care products.

Besides, the firm is also aiming to widen the scope for the ingredient towards skin care formulators with the launch of new oil.

Artiste president and principal Joe Raimondo told cosmeticsdesign.com that the new oil is ideal for cosmetic formulations, such as skin rejuvenation, hair treatment, anti-bacterial products, soaps, lip gloss, face masks, body care products, among others.

"Cocoa has long been used topically in skin creams and cosmetics due to its anti-aging capabilities that help improve hydration, decrease skin roughness and scaling, and support in the skin’s defense against UV damage," Raimondo added.

The firm said cocoa oil as a fragrance has also been widely used in manufacturing cosmetic and personal care products due to its fresh, rich notes that are customarily associated with tropical climates and also having specific olfactory senses.

Artiste said in many studies it was found that cocoa contains fragrance compounds that provide aromatherapy properties which can help to relieve stress and initiate an olfactory sensory experience.

Besides in the sensory and hair care applications, there is a lot of evidence to back up anti-aging claims for skin care products, which is likely to make the ingredient even more popular in this category, the company said.

The firm claims that the oil also possesses effective astringent properties, which is suitable for making soaps, and also contains proteins and vitamins that make it a restorative ingredient for a variety of hair care products.
