AkzoNobel’s bio-polymers to help develop hair styling products

Global paints and coatings company and a producer of specialty chemicals AkzoNobel has come out with a portfolio of the Sustainable Solutions for Styling bio-polymers.

Created by AkzoNobel Personal Care, it will help formulators create systems that will meet the demands of discerning consumers today for increased sustainability and better performance.

This will help in making hair styling products, which are more natural without compromising on performance, aesthetics or affordability, claims the company.

The polymers are featured in a new benchtop kit puts that gives formulators access to tap them.

The kit features three of AkzoNobel’s innovations in naturally-derived polymer technology, which are BIOSTYLE CGP fixative polymer, AMAZE XT styling polymer and STRUCTURE STYLE polymer.

They are based on starting materials of maltodextrin, xantham gum and potato starch – all naturally- derived and renewable resources.

Using these eco-friendly responsible styling polymers, formulators can choose the ingredient that suits the requirements of their final formulations best, including high possible clarity, natural finished product or the most economical system.

AkzoNobel Technical Service Engineer, Hair Styling said the benchtop kit will help formulators realise the full value of what the Sustainable Solutions for Styling portfolio can provide.

BIOSTYLE CGP fixative polymer lets formulators create more natural hair gels with AkzoNobel’s patented hybrid polymer technology, which combines synthetic performance and sustainable technology.

AMAZE XT styling polymer, a 100% renewable polymer, can double up both as a film former and a thickener for gels and other styling aids.

STRUCTURE STYLE polymer is for formulators looking to create formulations that deliver hold, texture and incredible hair feel with a natural element that adds value.

This non-GMO, high-amylopectin film former and rheology modifier, which is derived from potato starch, offers thickening and long-lasting hold with the potential for considerable savings in formulation costs.
