Unilever launches fragrance disclosure initiative in Europe

Consumer goods supplier Unilever plans to disclose the fragrance ingredients used in its homecare and personal care products sold in the UK and France.

The company intends to launch the new fragrance disclosure initiative across all European countries by the end of this year as part of its transparency initiative, which was first launched last year.

Under the transparency initiative, Unilever introduced a “What’s in our Products” section on its website to support consumers with allergies in selecting suitable products.

The brand intends to regularly update the product information, detailing the use of each ingredient down to 0.01% of the product formulation.

Unilever chief research and development (R&D) officer David Blanchard said: “We know how important fragrances are to people, they want products that make them look good, feel good and smell good.

“We’re excited to take the next step in our transparency journey, delivering on our promise to give people the information they need to choose the right products for them. People want to know more about fragrance ingredients and how we create scents for the brands they love.”

With 169,000 employees and sales operations in 190 countries, Unilever has more than 400 brands including Persil, Dove, Knorr, Domestos, Hellmann’s, Lipton, Wall’s, PG Tips, Ben & Jerry’s, Magnum and Lynx.
