Unilever to acquire skin care brand Dermalogica

Unilever has agreed to acquire US-based skin care brand Dermalogica for an undisclosed amount.

Upon completion of the acquisition, Dermalogica will be incorporated into Unilever’s Prestige division, which focuses on distribution and premium personal care brands.

Unilever CEO Paul Polman said: "Dermalogica enjoys an outstanding reputation and incredible awareness among skin care professionals and consumers alike, and has a clear positioning as a superior skin health brand that perfectly complements the rest of our Prestige offering.

"Dermalogica has great distribution and presence globally; and I am pleased that Jane and Raymond have retained an interest in the company and will continue to work with us to grow the brand."

Founded in 1986, Dermalogica manufactures skin care products such as cleansers, exfoliants, masques, toners, concentrated boosters and targeted treatments.

Dermalogica’s products are currently sold in over 80 countries. It offers both a range of in-home products, as well as a specialist offering for professional skin therapists.

Commenting on the deal, Dermalogica founder and chief visionary Jane Wurwand said: "This partnership will provide Dermalogica with the opportunities and resources to take the brand to even greater heights and help us continue our legacy in supporting the next generation of professional skin therapists and women entrepreneurs worldwide."

Dermalogica generated around $240m in annual sales volume during 2014.
