P&G files lawsuit against Edgewell Personal Care over patent infringement

Procter & Gamble has filed a lawsuit against Edgewell Personal Care over alleged patent infringement.

It also accused Edgewell of making misleading claims about its business unit Gillette.

According to the lawsuit, Edgewell Personal Care Company's advertisement claimed that its Schick razors are equal to or better than Gillette's Mach3 razors.

The lawsuit was filed in New York by Gillette, reported Cincinnati.com.

Gillette has urged the US District Court to compell Edgewell to remove its razors from outlets of retailers such as CVS and Wal-Mart, reported The Wall Street Journal.

It also urged the court to force Edgewell to remove midleading claims on packaging of Schick razors.

Mach3 razor was launched in 1998 and has recorded sales of more than $5bn.

Meanwhile, in a press release, Edgewell stated: "We believe P&G's allegations have no basis. Gillette's MACH3 patents have expired and we are confident in the quality and performance of our private label products.

"We will vigorously defend ourselves against these meritless claims and will continue to support our valued customers around the world."

Last December, P&G filed a lawsuit against Dollar Shave Club over alleged use of its Gillette technology.
