Momentive to introduce silica-based gel for cosmetic formulations

US-based Momentive Performance Materials is set to introduce silicone-based, cross polymer network emulsion Velvesil E-Gel PMF for aqueous-based cosmetics formulations at the in-cosmetics show.

The multi-function, patent-pending Velvesil E-Gel emulsion is designed to cover skin imperfections and wrinkles, as well as achieve a soft-skin feel and moisturising effects.

The emulsion can be used in formulations of personal care and cosmetic products such as toners, serums, leave-in and rinse-off hair products, sunscreens, and foundations.

Momentive's senior business director Beatriz Blanco said: “Multi-functional ingredients such as Velvesil gels are increasingly sought after by cosmetics manufacturers for their ability to enhance sensory and performance benefits while reducing the complexity and costs associated with producing products in the colour cosmetics, skincare, and haircare industries.

“Our talented research and development (R&D) teams continue to develop creatively-designed products that are easy to use, offer production versatility, and can enrich the look, feel, and performance with a single additive.”

Momentive intends to present Velvesil E-Gel PMF to personal care formulators at the in-cosmetics show to enable visitors to directly experience the emulsion's effects.

The in-cosmetics show will be held from 4 to 6 April in London.
