Mary Kay to invest $100m in new cosmetics manufacturing facility in US

Mary Kay has announced plans to invest $100m in a new manufacturing and research and development facility in Lewisville, Texas, US.

Construction on the proposed facility will begin in September, with plans to complete the work in the first quarter of 2018.

Spanning around 470,000ft², the facility will produce skincare and colour cosmetics to serve Mary Kay's more than 3.5 million independent salesforce members across the world.

Mary Kay chief supply chain officer Thomas Cho said: "This state-of-the-art facility is being specifically designed and built to meet not only today's, but tomorrow's, challenges to ensure the future of Mary Kay in an ever-growing and changing global marketplace. I am extremely proud of our commitment to Texas and to remain competitive with 'Made in America'.

"We are very excited about our innovative vision for Mary Kay's new US-based global manufacturing and research and development facility."

The Lewisville location was selected following an extensive evaluation of potential locations throughout North Texas.

Jacobs Engineering will provide the building design and Beck Construction will serve as the general contractor.

Mary Kay's existing global manufacturing and R&D facility in Dallas employs more than 500 employees.

The Dallas plant produces up to 1.1 million products per day, with 57% are exported to Mary Kay's international markets.

The company conducts more than 500,000 tests each year to ensure its products meet the highest standards of quality, safety and performance.
