Madenco develops new cosmeceuticals line

Canada-based pharmaceutical firm Quest PharmaTech’s subsidiary Madenco Biosciences has developed new cosmeceutical line SP-DERM to complement its Bellus Skin anti-ageing serum.

Based on Madenco’s SP-Technology, the new line includes post-procedural cream SP-DERM Recovery, maintenance cream SP-DERM Maintenance, and serum SP-DERM Acne.

The SP-Technology platform is designed to generate protein transduction domain (PTD) or cell-penetrating peptides/proteins (CPP), with enhanced skin permeability.

Bellus Skin is a clinically validated anti-ageing skin serum developed to minimise wrinkles and signs of ageing.

Created with guidance from dermatologist and cosmetic surgeon Dr Jaggi Rao, the SP-DERM Recovery is meant to improve post-laser treatment recovery of skin, while SP-DERM Maintenance is claimed to prolong cosmetic procedural effects and SP-DERM Acne helps decrease acne scar appearance.

According to data from a preliminary pilot study conducted in patients with acne scars, SP-DERM Acne improved doctor assessed and also self-assessed results following its application for four weeks and eight weeks.

Madenco / Quest's chief executive officer (CEO) Dr Madi Madiyalakan said: "SP-DERM will fill a much-needed market niche as there is no current standard for post-procedural treatment or for acne scar treatment in dermatology clinics.

“With more than $12bn spent annually on cosmetic procedures in the US, there is a huge market potential for products like SP-DERM that can enhance the benefits of cosmetic treatment in dermatology clinics, and spas as we continue to explore other indications."

At the same time, Madenco signed sale agreements with Swiss company HCBD to market Bellus Skin in the EU and with Singapore-based Merhati-Innokeys for distribution in ASEAN countries.
