L’Occitane introduces skincare line based on rare regenerating algae in Malayasia

French cosmetics brand L’Occitane has introduced its first skincare line based on a rare form of algae in Malaysia.

This algae, Jania Rubens, is found in Corsica’s Revellata Bay and is capable of continual regeneration. Researchers took a sample of the algae and grew it in an aquarium to reflect its natural habitat, helping to preserve the species.

L’Occitane's director of plants and biological actives Pascal Portes was quoted by nst.com.my as saying: “It took us seven years of research, including a doctoral thesis to reproduce the natural living conditions of Jania, which it demonstrates its ability to regenerate endlessly.

"We managed to obtain a 100% natural extract.”

Besides Jania, the company's anti-aging line also utilises the Immortelle Millesimee extract, which is also sourced from Corsica.

Portes was also quoted as saying: “It is grown in Corsica with an exceptional amount of sunshine.

"It is still hand-picked and distilled immediately to provide its most precious ingredient, the essential oil.

“The Immortelle essential oil is very rich in molecules that are active on the skin.

"We have been studying the anti-ageing properties of Immortelle essential oil for 15 years.”

Jania Rubens and Immortelle Millesimee extract are used in Harmonie Divine serum and cream, which are avsilable in 30ml bottles for MYR830 and 50ml for MYR880. The micro-serum is designed to improve facial contour and volume.

The luxurious moisturiser also features the scent of Mediterranean waters, and has scents of earth, myrtle, musk, and Immortelle.
