Johnson & Johnson acquires Vogue International for $3.3bn

Johnson & Johnson (J&J) Consumer has completed the acquisition of US-based beauty products firm Vogue International for $3.3bn in cash from the company's founder Todd Christopher and private equity firm The Carlyle Group.

The acquisition is expected to boost J&J’s consumer business and strengthen its presence in this segment.

J&J beat rival cosmetics firms such as Henkel, Unilever and L’Oréal in the bidding process.

Based in Clearwater, Florida, Vogue is involved in development, marketing and distribution of salon-influenced and nature inspired haircare and other personal care products.

Under the deal, Johnson & Johnson has acquired OGX collection of shampoos, conditioners, treatments, styling products, body care and bath products.

The deal also included the acquisition of the FX line of hair styling products, as well as Proganix and Maui Moisture hair care lines.

When announcing the acquisition agreement, Johnson & Johnson Consumer worldwide chairman Jorge Mesquita said: “Our acquisition of Vogue International’s full line of leading advanced haircare products sold in the US and in 38 countries will strengthen our global presence in this important category.

“Vogue International’s commitment to quality, innovation, and consumer preference complement our consumer portfolio, while also presenting attractive haircare category growth opportunities for Johnson & Johnson.”

Vogue founder Todd Christopher said: “We are constantly recreating the company, so we are always offering innovative products to a very savvy consumer.”

Johnson & Johnson Consumer produces consumer health and personal care products under different brands such as Johnson’s Baby, Band-Aid, Neutrogena, Tylenol, Motrin and Listerine.
