Italian skincare market driven by older consumers: Report

The Italian skincare market is driven by older consumers, followed by mid-lifers, pre-mid-lifers, and older young adults, according to a report from the UK-based research firm Canadean.

The report, titled ‘The Italian Skincare Market: What Consumers Use and Why?’, revealed that older consumers led the skincare market value in Italy in 2012 with a share of 32.9%, while mid-lifers, pre-mid-lifers, and older young adults held 17.7%, 16.9%, and 12.7% market share respectively.

In addition, early young adults, tweens & early teens, and kids & babies held 8.4%, 5% and 6.4% share of market value respectively in 2012.

Gender-wise, women accounted for a bulk of the market value with a 65.2% share, while men held 34.8% share.

Consumer groups in the urban areas were top purchasers with a 76.9% share, and rural consumer groups held a share of 23.1%.

Wealth-wise, the ‘better-off’ wealth group led the share of market value with 36.6%, while hard pressed group and moderate income group had a share of 24% and 21.2% respectively.

In the ‘body care’ category, older consumers held 28.2% share, mid-lifers had 16.4% share, and pre-mid lifers held 17% share. In ‘depilatory category’, older consumers held 24.6% share, mid-lifers had 16.2% share, and pre-mid lifers held 19.1% market value.
