Emami acquires hair care brand Kesh King for $258.6m

Indian skincare and healthcare company Emami has agreed to acquire Kesh King brand of hair and scalp care products from SBS Biotech for INR16.51bn ($258.6m).

The acquisition is a part of the company’s growth strategy.

With this investment, Emami makes its entry into the ayurvedic hair and scalp care business.

The acquisition covers Kesh King’s portfolio of ayurvedic medicinal oil, herbal shampoo, conditioner and ayurvedic capsules along with respective formulations and all-related assets, rights and liabilities including working capital.

The transfer of business will take place in slump-sale basis.

Expected to be completed in a month, the acquisition will be funded by a combination of surplus funds and short and long-term debt.

Kesh King generated around INR3bn ($47m) in annual sales volume during the period between 2014-15.

Based in Kolkata, Emami manufactures and markets personal and health care products in India and internationally.

The company’s products include Himani Navratna and Navratna Extra Thanda cool oils; Boroplus advanced moisturising lotion; BoroPlus prickly heat powder; Mentho Plus Balm; Zandu Vigorex; Zandu Sona Chandi Chyawanprash Plus; 7 Oils in One- damage control hair oils; Zandu Kesari Jivan; BoroPlus anti pollution daily face wash products; Zandu Balm; BoroPlus anti-septic creams.
