Dubai perfumes and cosmetics trade amounts to $1.36bn in Q1, 2017

Dubai’s perfumes and cosmetics trade has reached AED5bn ($1.36bn) in Q1 of this year, according to figures reported by Dubai Customs.

The trade included AED3bn ($810m) of imports and AED2bn ($540m) in exports and re-exports. The total volume during this period was 202,000t, of which 97,000t accounts to imports and 105,000t to exports and re-exports.

At the same time, the trade stood at approximately AED21bn ($5.7bn) last year, with a total volume of 755,000t, amounting to 17% increase as compared to 2012.

The figures were presented by Dubai Customs Strategy and Corporate Excellence statistics and studies head Nassim Al Maheiri at a workshop held at Beautyworld Middle East Exhibition.

Dubai Customs' strategy and corporate excellence director Ahmed Abdul Salam Kazim said: “We, at Dubai Customs, support international exhibitions held in Dubai by briefing participating companies on the latest statistics and data of Dubai external trade in their relevant sectors.

“They can learn about the opportunities available for them and the benefits that Dubai Customs provides to facilitate trade and investment.”

While perfumes were reported to be the top traded beauty product last year, contributing AED6.2bn ($1.68bn), lotions were worth AED4.3bn ($1.17bn), while lip and eye cosmetics were worth AED1.4bn ($380m), deodorants AED1bn ($270m), and shampoo AED733m ($199.5m).

According to Al Maheiri, France traded the most with AED3bn ($810m), while US traded AED2bn ($540m), Saudi Arabia AED1.4bn ($381m), Italy AED1.2bn ($326m), and UK traded AED1bn ($270m).
