Deinove reports catalogue of active extracts for cosmetic applications

French biotech company Deinove has announced that it has a catalogue of bacterial strains, with confirmed properties for cosmetic applications.

In 2016, Deinove undertook an extensive screening programme of its bacterial collection to identify strains displaying properties considered useful for cosmetic applications, mainly in skincare.

A selection of 430 wild-type strains was screened by the Fluofarma laboratory, specialising in cell-based assays, to assess the effect of compounds in various applications, particularly in cosmetics.

In vitro screening tests helped to identify dozens of strains with desired properties, including antioxidant, anti-ageing, and anti-ultraviolet (UV) characteristics.

Deinove's chief executive officer (CEO) Emmanuel Petiot said: "These results are a solid foundation for the development of our activities, initially in cosmetics, skin, and hair.

"They were obtained thanks to the work of our teams and our collaboration with Fluofarma, an expert laboratory in in vitro screening. As we foresaw, our strain bank has exceptional potential.

"This is now fully confirmed and we have a catalogue of strains with various and identified properties to fuel the ongoing discussions and open up new opportunities with the industrial stakeholders."

Deinove is a biotech company, which discovers, develops, and produces compounds with industrial value from rare microorganisms for the healthcare, nutrition, and cosmetics markets.

Located in Montpellier, Deinove employs approximately 50 people and has nearly 160 international patent applications.
