Clarins soon to be microbeads free

Cosmetics firm Clarins, which has joined some industry players in making a commitment towards discarding microbeads, is currently in the phase of being completely removing the tiny plastics particles from its products.

Clarins is in the process of removing 5mm of microbeads as soon as possible and that new formulations will not have feature the tiny particles.

Earlier, at an international campaign, the company took a pledge stating: "As a leading cosmetic house, Clarins greatly values its image as being a leader in social responsibility and will continue to work tirelessly to offer the best products in terms of safety and efficacy for our customers, together with the sustainability for our planet and our environment."

The company has researched and confirmed of using new natural alternative to microbeads.

It added: "The new component is Cellulose, which is 100% natural, as well as being equally efficient, perfectly tolerated and maintaining our stringent quality and safety requirements."

Similarly, in 2012, Unilever made an announcement that it would be microbeads free by 2015, and soon others too would join the initiative.

Colgate-Palmolive, L’Oréal and Johnson & Johnson were the next while Proctor & Gamble products are likely to be free of microbeads by 2017.

Many studies have found adverse effects of plastic beads on the environment. The debris flows into the ocean, which affects the aquatic habitat.

The microbeads are used in variety of products such as daily soaps, toothpaste, face wash and face scrubs, sunscreen and shampoos.
