Clariant opens new Active Ingredients Unit to focus on personal care industry

Specialty chemicals firm Clariant has formed a new unit dedicated to support the needs for active ingredients in the personal care industry.

This Active Ingredients Unit is expected to extend the firm's specialty formulation ingredients portfolio across the skincare, haircare and body care segments.

A facility of the new unit opened in January at the Sanofi BioParc in Toulouse, France. A team with experience in the field of active ingredients will operate out of this location.

The firm plans to further expand its operations this year.

The firm chose Toulouse because of the area's active focus on biotechnology and proximity to potential development partners and players in the cosmetics industry.

The team in the new unit will work towards expanding the firm's current portfolio of naturally-sourced products from BioSpectrum and Beraca, as well as develop new nature-inspired active ingredients.

It will have access to laboratories with pharmaceutical industry-standards, for skin biology studies and testing, along with biochemical laboratories to synthesise new molecules for unmet needs of consumers.
