Chemyunion develops new ingredient for anti-ageing effect

Brazilian chemical company Chemyunion has developed new active ingredient Ecoffea for use in anti-ageing products.

Ecoffea is a glycerinated extract of Coffea Arabica, which is said to be scientifically proven to possess anti-ageing properties.

According to the firm, chronological ageing is associated with a gradual decrease in mitochondrial function and an increase in the size of corneocytes.

The ingredient is said to be suitable for anti-ageing formulations due its antioxidant properties and its ability to provide mitochondrial protection, minimising the release of residue, promoting regeneration of corneocytes, and improving the skin’s micro-surface.

Claimed to deliver an improved skin surface within 15 days and rejuvenation benefits for up to 13 years, Ecoffea offers cell energy stimulation for healthy skin metabolism, while antioxidant mitochondrial protection ensures cell viability.

Upon testing for efficacy, the ingredient is reported to enhance the activity of enzyme aconitase, which is considered indicative of restored mitochondrial function and cell renewal stimulation. In mature skin, Ecoffea is said to have restored the phenotype of corneocytes by around 13 years.

The plant-based ingredient can be used in a concentration of 1% to 5% in emulsions, gels, and serums.
