Beauty retailer Sephora adds new features to augmented reality app

Beauty retailer Sephora has added new digital enhancements to augmented reality mobile app Sephora Virtual Artist.

Powered by the Sephora Innovation Lab, the newly added features include an expanded library of looks and colour match for Virtual Try On.

The Cheek Try On library includes more than 1,000 single colours and palettes, including blush, bronzer, contour, and highlighter shades. The feature enables users to try the shades and pair them with lipstick, eyeshadow colours, and false lash styles for several customised combinations.

Sephora is also expanding its library of one-click looks by adding several makeup styles created by its own artists. Categorised as Daytime, Trend, Nighttime, and Natural, the selected looks will be laid over the user’s face with a 3D live view.

Colour Match for Virtual Try On employs artificial intelligence to identify and precisely estimate the shade in a photo and match it with lip, eyeshadow or cheek products available at Sephora. Previously launched within the Sephora Virtual Artist bot available on Facebook Messenger, Colour Match delivers relevant selections.

The feature detects the predominant colour but allows users to choose any colour present in the photo by moving the indicator dot.

The matches of the shades delivered by Colour Match can be immediately tried on in the Virtual Artist app.

Sephora Virtual Artist uses a smartphone’s camera and a technology developed by ModiFace to accurately map the location and shape of facial features.
