BASF tests haircare applications of skincare product PatcH2O

BASF has clinically tested its skin moisturiser PatcH2O, finding potential haircare applications.

In a double-blind placebo-controlled clinical study, PatcH₂O demonstrated anti-ageing scalp care abilities with immediate and sustained improvement in moisturisation.

The firm compared a leave-on hair serum with 2% PatcH₂O in Caucasian, African, Hispanic, and Asian female subjects featuring various types of skin and hair.

A 52% increase was observed against baseline upon assessment of scalp hydration using dielectric conductivity at four hours, three days, and 21 days after treatment.

Volunteers are reported to have experienced improved hair quality and shine.

The technology used in PatcH₂O is based on natural macromolecules featuring a controlled release of active ingredients.

In addition to providing optimum hydration on the surface of the scalp, PatcH₂O minimises water evaporation by forming a protective film through its three-dimensional (3D) molecular mesh.

The mesh comprises a combination of natural glucan pullulan with natural biopolymers, hyaluronic acid, and alginate. It also features a moisturising complex of glycerine, L-serine, trehalose, and urea, which is intended to rebalance the moisture level of the skin by penetrating into the core of the stratum corneum.
