New survey reveals 36% of women like to buy cruelty-free beauty products

A survey conducted by makeup and beauty platform Perfect365 found that 36% of respondents prefer to buy cosmetics products that have not been tested on animals.

This survey was conducted on 15,000 users of Perfect365’s app.

Several consumers and beauty companies are making a move towards products that do not use animal testing, also known as ‘cruelty-free’ products.

Hawaii and California have recently introduced bills to ban cosmetic testing on animals. However, testing is generally unregulated and only a few states in the US have supported the movement.

The bill in Hawaii is backed by Cruelty-Free International. Under the bill, local manufacturers will have to prove they are using alternative product testing methods that have been scientifically approved.

Perfect 365’s survey found that 46% of respondents stated that they were happy with California’s proposed bill, while 24% stated that they were aware of and used the website of US-based animal rights organisation People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) to search information regarding brands that use only cruelty-free manufacturing methods.

Perfect365 director of marketing Cara Harbor said: “Based on our recent user survey, data seems to suggest a large percentage of the younger generation of women are expressing concerns about the testing of beauty products on animals.

“While animal testing has remained mostly unregulated, this study shows it is something beauty brands will really need to think about moving forward to meet consumer demands.”
