Johnson & Johnson re-launches baby care products

Johnson & Johnson (J&J) has re-introduced its line of baby care products amid rising concern about product safety and declining sales.

The company’s baby care line sales have declined by 20% since 2011. However, J&J refutes the claim that health concerns are responsible.

Law firm Beasley Allen attorney Ted Meadows said: “There is overwhelming evidence that J&J has known about the links between talcum powder and cancer for decades.

“They knew that the mining process that extracts talc can taint it with asbestos, heavy metals and other chemicals that can cause cancer. J&J has fought to conceal the facts rather than taking steps to protect consumers by pulling those products from the market, or even properly labelling them.”

Other manufacturers of baby powder have started placing warnings on their products to convey the health risks. Various studies have suggested that talcum powder applied to the female genital area can travel to the ovaries and cause ovarian cancer.

Meadows further added: “Meanwhile, J&J is removing dyes, preservatives and sulfates from other products because the company says it has a responsibility to remove these ingredients even though they’re safe.

“But the company continues to deny the science and statements in their own documents about the risks from talc.”
