Deals and M&As this week: Amkiri, Ashley Tisdale, L’Oréal

Amkiri has raised funds through a seed funding round led by International Flavors & Fragrances.

The round was also supported by Marker, a venture capital fund based in the US.

Located in Israel, Amkiri is engaged in the development of scented inks, while International Flavors is a flavourings company based in the US.

Amkiri will use the funds to develop technologies for the beauty industry.

Ashley Tisdale has completed an acquisition of makeup line Illuminate from BH Cosmetics for an undisclosed sum.

Based in the US, BH Cosmetics is an e-commerce retailer and wholesaler of makeup products.

Following the acquisition, the line will operate as a separate business and will also be rebranded.

L’Oréal has signed a global licence agreement with Valentino to develop and distribute fragrances and beauty products.

Founded in 1960, Valentino offers various fragrance brands, including Valentino Donna, Valentino Uomo and Valentina, as well as a range of products under the Haute Couture, Prêt-à-Porter and Valentino Garavani brands. It operates 175 boutiques and more than 1,500 point-of-sale outlets in 100 countries.

L’Oréal offers 34 brands, which are available across department stores, pharmacies and drugstores, as well as hair salons, branded retail and e-commerce distribution channels.

Future Group intends to acquire Iraya hair from Athena Life Sciences.

Iraya hair is a personal care products brand, while Athena Life Sciences is a cosmeceutical and therapeutic beauty treatments provider based in India.

Future Group plans to enter the Indian ayurvedic personal care market through the acquisition.

L’Oréal has acquired Pulp Riot from its founders David Thurston and Alexis Thurston.

Based in France, L’Oréal is a producer and seller of cosmetic products, while Pulp Riot is a professional hair colour brand.

Pulp Riot’s product portfolio includes Purple Toning Shampoo, Black Canvas dye and colour removal products, as well as high-speed toners, semi-permanent colours and blonding lighteners. It recorded net sales of $11m in 2017.

David Thurston will continue to manage Pulp Riot following the acquisition.

Topix Pharmaceuticals has completed an acquisition of DERMA E.

Based in the US, DERMA E offers natural skincare products that are suitable for vegans, while Topix Pharmaceuticals is a provider of innovative therapeutic and cosmetic skincare solutions.

Investment manager Piper Jaffray was the financial adviser to DERMA E, while international law firm Winston & Strawn was the legal counsel for the transaction.

Lowenstein Sandler served as the legal advisor for Topix Pharmaceuticals and New Mountain Capital.
