Report: Customised beauty solutions to emerge as top trends in 2017

Customers are increasingly opting for customised beauty offerings, according to a report by GlobalData.

Titled ‘Top Trends in Beauty and Grooming 2017’, the report highlights growing trends among consumers to opt for customised beauty offerings. The market is expanding rapidly due to growth in social media and consumers’ need to look their best at all times. As a result, consumers are increasingly showing interest in keeping up with the latest trends.

The most influential factors attracting consumers include a product's ability to be customised to customer's needs and personalies, as well as its impact on health and well-being. Although customisation is not an entirely new concept, it is appealing to approximately 61% of consumers globally, says consumer analyst for GlobalData Jamie Mills.

DNA-based customised solutions are less popular, with just 44% consumers finding them appealing. Despite the potential effectiveness of DNA-based formulations, their cost and technological complications are barriers to their adoption.

By tailoring products according to requirements, consumers are able to enjoy the benefits of these products and create a unique experience at home, adds Mills, quoting the example of Kiehl’s Apothecary Preparations, which enables customers to choose products based on their skin concerns and through in-store skin consultation.
