India’s Dabur acquires South African personal care products firms

Indian consumer goods company Dabur has closed an acquisition of D&A Cosmetics and Atlanta Body & Health Products.

Announced last year, the R50m ($4.14m) deal will see the newly acquired firms become step-down, wholly-owned subsidiary companies of Dabur India.

According to the Press Trust of India, the transaction comes after Dabur acquired South Africa-based Discaria Trading in 2016. In April last year, the company also closed an acquisition of personal, haircare and creams businesses of CTL group in a deal valued at INR100m ($1.5m).

With revenues of more than INR76.8bn ($1.17bn) and a market capitalisation in excess of INR488bn ($7.48bn), Dabur is an ayurvedic and natural healthcare company.

Founded in 1884, the company’s product portfolio covers categories such as haircare, oral care, healthcare, skincare, homecare and food. Its brands are available in more than 120 countries, including the Middle East, South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries, Africa, the US, Europe and Russia.

The transaction is expected to strengthen the company’s overseas portfolio and its international business accounts.
