SEPPIC introduces new active haircare ingredient

Specialty ingredients maker SEPPIC has introduced new active ingredient Xylishine, which is designed to repair, moisturise, and improve the shine of hair.

The new bio-inspired ingredient features natural sugars derived from wood hemicelluloses and the brown algae Pelvetia canaliculata .

Sugars derived from wood hemicelluloses are said to possess high water absorption capacity and allow for a stronger cell wall structure, while the sugars present in Pelvetia are known for their hydrating properties. The composition of the haircare ingredient is intended to reproduce these natural properties to restore hair’s shine and flexibility.

SEPPIC product manager Audrey Poujade-Fauresse said: “By combining the expertise of our marine biotechnologies with that of the plant, SEPPIC has taken up the challenges of hair hydration and proposes you Xylishine, an active ingredient offering a rare moisturising intensity to the core of the fibre, for a visible benefit.”

During ex-vivo studies, Xylishine at 3% is reported to repair hair fibre and restore more than 30% of deep moisture in rinse-off and leave-on applications.

As per data from two in-vivo studies, one leave-on lotion of 3% Xylishine on Brazilian hair and one rinse-off shampoo on Caucasian hair enhances shine and helps define curls of frizzy hair.
