Henkel to consolidate operations in India for $290.2m turnover

German personal care products company Henkel is working to consolidate its Indian operations with an aim to generate INR15bn ($290.2m) turnover in the next five years.

Currently, the firm in India caters to the adhesives and cosmetics categories, reported economictimes.com.

Henkel Group India President Jeremy Hunter said that the fragmented business requires consolidation and stabilisation; and instead of the already existing ten small factories, the firm plans to make them into fewer but bigger ones in the next 3-5 years.

Hunter added that the firm also is looking to invest substantially and therefore could set up new manufacturing units in the country.

The firm, which currently is reportedly generating INR10bn ($193.5m) revenue, aims at achieving INR15bn ($290.2m) in the five years.

According to the website, the company is also in talks with the consultants, who will provide inputs in the next 6-12 months and help it decide on its future course.

Henkel’s personal care portfolio includes shampoo, toothpaste, hair colourants, shower products amongst others, while it sells adhesives and sealants in diverse segments that includes manufacturing, electronics, automotive and aerospace.

In 2011, Henkel had sold its consumer care business to Jyothy Laboratories.
