German make-up industry to experience slow growth rate ahead: Report

The make-up industry in Germany is expected to grow at slower pace in the next five years compared to 2006-2011, according to a new survey by UK-based research firm Canadean – Health & Beauty.

In its report ‘The Future of the Make-up Market in Germany, to 2016,’ Canadean observes a decline in the growth of overall market, which is expected to register compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3.06% between 2011 to 2016 compared to 5.26% during the previous five years.

All the segments are also anticipated to experience growth similar to that of the overall industry until 2016, with lip make-up being the slowest at 2.20% of CAGR for the forecast period over 4.57% in the review period.

Germans are expected to show increased passion towards eye make-up after 2011 compared to the previous five-year period, which is likely to widen its market value share marginally to 32% by 2016.

While face make-up is set to retain its value share through the forecast period, lip and nail make-up segments are estimated to experience a slight drop when compared with 2006-2011 figures.

In value terms, face make-up holds the top spot with highest share of up to 40% during both review and forecast periods, followed by eye make-up, lip make-up and nail make-up, the survey revealed.

Canadean report also provides insights into the market volume analysis by brands and market value by distribution channel between 2008 and 2011.
