PT Martina Berto sales rise by 22% in H1 2012

Indonesia-based traditional cosmetics manufacturer PT Martina Berto has reported a 22% rise in international sales to IDR 4.3bn ($452,919) during the first half of 2012.

The firm’s net sales for the first half of the year grew by12.2% to IDR329.2bn ($34.67m) and its net profits rose by 2.3% to IDR24.48bn ($2.58m), reported newspaper The Jakarta Post.

Martina Berto said its cosmetics division, which reported 93.5% of total net sales, grew by 12.7% to IDR307.89bn ($32.44m).

According to the company, the makeup products division sales has contributed the most to the cosmetics division with IDR166.18bn($17.51m), followed by body and skincare division, which contributed IDR87.67bn($9.24m), and hair care division postied IDR40.21bn($4.24m).

The company said it was also planning to increase its international sales by making its presence in neighbouring countries and those in the Middle East.

Martina Bertopresident director Bryan Tilaar said the firm’s two brands, Sariayu and Caring, are exported to Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia and Singapore.

"Next year, we will put more emphasis on our exports to the Middle East. We will hold a beauty fair in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Hopefully, the fair will help us penetrate the local market," told Tilaar to the news paper.

The firm now holds two retail outlets under the Martha Tilaar Shop brand in Singapore, and it is also planning to set up five foreign outlets in Southeast Asia by 2016, which are expected to be located in Malaysia and Brunei.
