Sabinsa introduces new skin care formulation extracted from native Indian fruit

Sabinsa, a cosmetic ingredient manufacturer, has introduced a new skin care formulation Saberry + Cococin, which is extracted from a native Indian fruit called phyllanthus emblica, commonly known as the edible amla fruit.

The US-based firm said the new formulation has been awarded a US patent, which recognises the significant research and development that was devoted to its development, reported cosmeticsdesign.com.

According to the firm, Saberry was originally developed using the amla extract, and has been evaluated using a valid biomarker ß-glucogallin.

The firm explained that the ingredient in preliminary research exhibited antimicrobial properties, together with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which makes it suitable for medicinal and skin care applications.

The company said Cococin part of the formulation is made with dried coconut water solids, with its proprietary lyophhilisation technique.

Sabinsa said the combined formulation results in a skin care ingredient, where there is no added sugar or carbohydrates, implying that it retains the nutrititive value of the coconut water with respect to the minerals, vitamins, aminoacids and electrolytes it contains.

The firm said the new formulation specifically works on the dermal papilla cells from destroying stress signals, which helps in skin cells regeneration, besides checking inflammation, and also producing useful anti-microbial proteins.

According to Sabinsa, dermal papilla cell clusters are mesenchyme cells, which are also reservoirs of multi-purpose stem cells and are said to play an crucial role in the epidermis regeneration.

The firm currently markets the Saberry and Cococin separately as cosmeceutical ingredients, with Saberry being promoted in the anti-aging and hair care categories, while Cococin is retailed as a moisturiser and rehydration ingredient for skin and hair care formulations.
