FDA warns L’Oreal on anti-wrinkle product marketing

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a letter of warning to the French cosmetics manufacturer L’Oreal’s American brand Lancome about the marketing claims of its certain anti-wrinkle products, with the company suggesting that the products are drugs.

The letter has pointed out the marketing of several products including Lancome’s Genifique Youth Activating Concentrate and Renergie Microlift Eye R.A.R.E. Intense Repositioning Eye Lifter.

According to the agency, the firm was making claims suggesting that the products ‘boosts the activity of genes and stimulates the production of youth proteins’ or provide ‘immediate lifting’ to the eye area, which clearly violate federal drug laws.

L’Oreal spokeswoman Rebecca told foxnews.com that the firm is aware of FDA’s letter to Lancome and it would respond to their regulatory concerns .

"Lancome is committed to complying fully with all laws and regulatory standards," added Caruso.

The agency suggested to the firm that the company should review its website, product labels and other product advertising to avoid making any claims that violate federal drug rules.

Lancome has to respond in 15 days to the FDA warning on the specific steps it has taken to correct the violations, according to the letter.

FDA said failure to take steps to correct violations outlined in the letter may result in enforcement action such as product seizure and injunctions against their manufacturers and distributors.
