Johnson & Johnson sales rise by 6.5% in Q3 2012

Consumers’ goods and health care products manufacturer Johnson & Johnson (J&J) has reported sales of $17.1bn for the third quarter 2012, an increase of 6.5% when compared to the same period of 2011.

The firm has posted net earnings of $3bn in the third quarter, which included after-tax special items of $553m.

According to the firm, positive contributors to operational results were sales of upper respiratory over-the-counter products, international sales of Listerine oral care products and Neutrogena skin care products.

J&J said the global consumer products sales for the third quarter contributed $3.6bn, a decline of 4.3% from third quarter of 2011 consisting of an operational increase of 1%.

The firm said its domestic sales grew 13.4%, while the international sales rose 1.4%, reflecting operational growth of 8.9% and a negative currency impact of 7.5%.

J&J chief executive officer Alex Gorsky said the company’s third-quarter results reflected continued sales impulse driven by growth of its key products, successful new product launches, and the acquisition of Synthes.

"We advanced our pipelines with regulatory approvals for a number of new products, the submission of several new drug applications, and the completion of several strategic collaborations," Gorsky added.

Johnson & Johnson is a US-based consumer firm operating in baby care, skin care, oral care, wound care and women’s health care fields, as well as nutritional and over-the-counter pharmaceutical products, and wellness and prevention platforms.
