Evonik to build new cosmetics ingredients production facility in Brazil

Germany-based specialty chemicals manufacturer Evonik has begun the construction of a new production facility in Americana, São Paulo, Brazil to produce cosmetics and consumer goods ingredients.

The mid-double-digit million euro facility is expected to start its operations in 2014 and create around 80 new jobs in total.

Evonik said the new facility will produce 50,000 mtpa, which would spread across different technologies to offer a broad portfolio of locally manufactured products for Personal Care and Household Care industries.

The portfolio will include specialty surfactants, conditioning agents, emollients, emulsifiers, thickeners and fabric softening actives amongst others.

Evonik South America regional president Weber Porto said the firm in the last two years not only increased its sales force capacities in the region, besides it has also set up an application lab in 2012 to accomplish its customers’ technical support requirements.

According to firm, the new production facility in South America aims to expand its global consumer specialties production network and allows it for a better access to the growth markets in South America.

Evonik has the production facilities for cosmetic ingredients in Europe, US and Asia.

In addition to the new project, the firm is currently building another production plant for ingredients for cosmetics and household consumer goods in Shanghai (China) to serve the Asian market.
