Nu Skin Enterprises signs agreement to acquire NOX Technologies

Skin care products manufacturer and multi-level marketing company Nu Skin Enterprises has signed a definitive agreement to acquire NOX Technologies, a US-based biotechnology and biodiagnostic company for $12.5m.

With the new agreement, Nu Skin will acquire NOX’s technology and patents, along with the previously licensed technology already applied in connection with its anti-aging research efforts.

Nu Skin chief scientific officer Joe Chang said the firm’s acquisition of NOX Technologies demonstrates its ongoing commitment to scientific innovation and provides it with additional tools to target the sources of aging.

"Furthermore, we believe the acquisition will enhance our long-term pipeline of scientifically validated anti-aging solutions for health, beauty and wellness," Chang added.

NOX Technologies provides Nu Skin scientists information about the aging process and supports the company’s ability to understand important sources of aging.

NOX Technologies has discovered arNOX, an age-related protein, which is found on the cell surface and is capable of superoxide generation, a nearest expression of the aging process.

The firm said the merging is the result of many years of working with Nu Skin researchers on its arNOX technology.

The acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions, such as approval of the transaction by NOX Technologies stockholders, while the closing is expected to occur before the end of 2012.

Nu Skin Enterprises, a US-based skin care, cosmetics manufacturer and direct selling company, has portfolio including ageLOC anti-aging products, ageLOC R2 nutritional supplement, ageLOC Galvanic Spa System and ageLOC Galvanic Body Spa, as well as the ageLOC Transformation daily skin care system.

The firm operates in 53 markets globally and has more than 900,000 active distributors and preferred customers.
