Own reveals new skincare app to measure and track the aging process of users

Own, a Us-based skin care products firm, has introduced a new My Own app, a patent-pending diagnostic tool, which aims to measure and track the aging process of users.

According to the firm, by clinical evaluation the app studies a photograph of the user about the major signs of aging and provides recommendations based on individual aging results about nutrition, wellness and beauty.

Providing personalisation and privacy, the new app delivers a clinical skin analysis in minutes, no matter when or where the user uploads their image.

Own said it has partnered with a Silicon Valley software company to develop the tool, which specialises in dermatological clinical photography and facial recognition technology used for the security and surveillance industry.

My Own app using the technology delivers complete information on the major signs of aging such as fine lines, deep lines, eye area wrinkles and hyper-pigmentation.

According to the firm, users simply take a photo of themselves, which is then analysed for the number of deep wrinkles, number of fine lines (including eye area wrinkles), percentage of face covered in hyper-pigmentation, visibility score and number of hyper-pigmented spots.

The programme not only sends personal ‘beauty numbers’ for each category (with 95% accuracy), the images are highlighted with signs of aging on the submitted photo.

Besides the user’s results are compared with the people those in the same age group, providing a deeper relation for results.

After the study, users receive a photo generated, which is based on clinical testing of the Own Renewing line, that compares side-by-side of the current submitted photo and a photo of how they could look after following a recommended skincare and wellness regimen.

The app based on the study prioritises personal skin issues and provides product recommendations and lifestyle advice for users to follow on a weekly basis to address the areas on a complete level.

Own chief marketing officer Stephen Matt said the firm’s new diagnostic tool enables users to know their personal beauty numbers while also drawing awareness to behaviours and practices outside of product recommendations, which can maximise their anti-aging routine.

"We believe in this truly holistic approach so much that we actually encourage users to track progress by submitting a new picture every 30 days. It’s a new way for consumers to manage their own skin’s health," Matt added.
